7. After the database loads the list of current patron info, click save changes(the browser window will refresh, then you may continue)

Guidelines on Patron Assistance
 +
 
 +
These rules apply to all staff working in the Information Technology Center
 +
 
 +
• Call Becky as soon as possible in the event of any non-routine problem.
 +

 +
 
 +
• Assist patrons as much as possible, but refer reference questions to Adult Services. 
 +
 +
• When helping a patron, do not touch the mouse or keyboard, walk them through the problem.
 +
 +
• If assisting a patron with anything involving personal information, advise them of privacy issues.
 +
 +
• If patrons need in-depth help, recommend classes.
 +
 
 +
• Always be polite and helpful when assisting a patron(remember, they don’t have the knowledge you do, and people can become frustrated easily with computer problems.)
 +
 
 +
• If a computer locks up, remotely restart it using the CASSIE Control window. The patron will still be logged on to that computer after it restarts.
 +
 
 +
• DO NOT use CASSIE’s Send Message feature to send messages to patrons. If there is a problem, walk over to them and explain the rules.
 +
 
 +
• Remember, as a Portsmouth Public Library staff member, you do not have to put up with threats or patrons cursing at you. If they do so, tell them you will contact security. If you are having difficulties, you can contact Becky or, if she is unavailable, you can contact the reference desk.

 +
Taking Breaks/Scheduling
 +
 
 +
• When working by yourself and you need to take a restroom break, you may use the “Will Return” sign.
 +
If you need to take a break 5 minutes or more, ask someone from the IT office to cover, or alert Reference that the desk will be unattended for a few minutes.
 +
 
 +
• Public Computers may be used, if available, during a lunch or break for non work-related activity such as checking personal email.
 +
 
 +
• Scheduling is done to benefit the library and its patrons. Scheduling will change as needed to provide the best service.
 +
 
 +
Employee Call-Off Procedures
 +
 
 +
What to do when you need to call off work:
 +
 
 +
• Notify the sickline: 353-7688, following the established library procedure.
 +
• Notify the IT Coordinator as soon as you know you will be calling off: 354-5724, or call: 574-1262 or 285-2147
 +
• If it is around or past opening time, also call the reference desk(354-5688)
 +
• Notify the IT Coordinator as soon as possible if desk coverage is affected by your absence or delay
 +
 
 +
When the library is closed due to snow:
 +
 
 +
• You will get a call from the IT Coordinator if the library is being closed due to snow.
 +
• If the library is open and you are not able to come to work, follow the procedures above.
 +
 +
Print Procedures
 +
 
 +
Printouts
 +
 
 +
• Black & White printouts are $0.10 and $0.20 for BW duplex. Color printouts are $0.50 and $1.00 for color duplex.  Patrons should be advised to ask for assistance before printing.
 +
• Patrons are allowed $1.00 of free pages per day, after which they must add funds to their account before they can print again.
 +
 
 +
Patrons may be reimbursed for blank pages
 +
 
 +
• If a patron wishes to be reimbursed for blank pages you can give them a refund
 +
• The patron may also be given credit to their printing account by looking the patron up in CASSIE, adding funds to their account, and clicking save
 +
• If the money bag is low on change, write the patron a refund slip and send them to Adult Circulation
 +
• Patrons cannot be reimbursed for the $1.00 of free printing they get per day, you may reimburse them for anything over the $1.00.
 +
• When in doubt, reimburse them.
 +
 
 +
Payment Procedures
 +
 
 +
• The money bag will have $5.00 of assorted change every day
 +
• If a staff member takes money for a printouts or a disk, enter it into circulation immediately after the transaction is complete. Do not wait until the end of the day to enter it into circ.
 +
 
 +
Margins

• When the desk supply of headphones is low, notify someone in the IT Office.

CASSIE Printing Procedures
 +
 
 +
Printouts
 +
• Patrons should be advised to ask for assistance before printing.
 +
• Patrons are allowed $1.00 of free pages per day, after which they must add funds to their account before they can print.
 +
• If a patron wishes to be refunded for blank pages:
 +
o The patron may be given credit by looking the patron up in CASSIE, adding funds to their Paid Print Account, and clicking Save.
 +
o Credits to guest accounts can be transferred to a new guest account only if the patron has the original guest account slip.
 +
o Patrons cannot receive a refund for the dollar of free printing they get per day; you may credit them only for prints they paid for after the dollar.
 +
 
 +
• If a patron wishes to be reimbursed for an unused print balance:
 +
o Fill out the “Unused Print Balance Refund” slip and attach it to the deposit receipt.
 +
 
 +
• Enter print payments immediately for each transaction:
 +
o Accept payment for each patron
 +
o Add funds to the patron’s CASSIE Account
 +
o Input the payments in circulation
 +
• Create the charge in circulation:
 +
• Go to “Charges” tab of patron account “money, money”

To input a print/disk payment:

Assisting patrons with problems signing in with their library cards:

• Check card expiration date and hot status on the basic info tab:

• To update an expired card:
 +
o Renew to 1 day prior to 3 years

• Ex. If today is 1/7/2008, renew to 1/6/2011 (##/##/###)

o Go to address tab and check “Address Correction Requested” and click Save
 +
o On the Basic Info tab, add comment “ITC Patron” and click Save
 +
• If Hot Status is bad:

o On Basic Info tab change hot status to good
 +

Misc

• If you are unable to fix the patron account, give the patron a guest pass and write down the Patron ID # so Becky can check it.

o Block their CASSIE account

Instructions for Tendering Fines
 +
Document Scanning Procedures
 +
 
 +
Scanning Documents for Patrons
 +
 
 +
1. Turn on the scanner and place the patron’s document on the labeled corner on the scanner bed.
 +
2. Open the HP Image Zone shortcut located on the Desktop or Start Menu.
 +
3. Click the From Scanner button near the bottom left corner of the window.
 +
4. When prompted, click Scan, and wait for the document to finish scanning.
 +
5. You may crop the image using the tiny black squares surrounding the image.
 +
6. Click Accept.
 +
• If you need to scan another image, click Yes when prompted, then click the New Scan button and place the next document on the scanner bed. Repeat step 4.
 +
7. The finished scan will be shown in the HP Image Zone window.
 +
 
 +
Transferring Documents for Patrons
 +
 
 +
After being scanned, patron documents will be saved to the My Scans folder located under My Documents. A shortcut to this folder has been placed on the Start Menu. The documents are stored in folders organized by year and month – example: 2009-11(Nov)
 +
 
 +
Documents can be copied to a patron’s own storage device(Flash drive, floppy, etc.), or copied to their computer using a staff flash drive. Once the patron has a copy of their documents, delete the originals from the staff computer and/or flash drive. Do not leave patron files on the staff computer or flash drives.
 +
 
 +
You may then assist the patron with their files on a public computer.
 +
 
 +
 
 +
Event Calendar Procedures
 +
 
 +
After a training class schedule has been finalized, classes need to be added to the Event Calendar.
 +
 
 +
To add classes to the Event Calendar:
 +
1. Open Internet Explorer
 +
2. Navigate to the address www.yourppl.org
 +
3. Click the Log In/Register link
 +
4. Log in: Username: itcstaff
 +
Password: ppl2003
 +
5. Click the Create Content link
 +
6. Click the Computer Classes link
 +
7. Enter the following information
 +
• Title
 +
• Date of Program
 +
o Clicking the More option below allows you to add multiple dates for the same class
 +
• Body – Enter the class description
 +
• Scheduling Options – use the format mm-dd-yyyy hh:mm Hours and Minutes are in Military time
 +
o Publish on – Enter the current day’s date and time
 +
o Unpublish on – Enter the date and time of the class
 +
• Click Submit
 +
• Click Logout
 +

Filter Procedures
 +
 
 +
General Information:
 +
 
 +
The Children’s Internet Protection Act(CIPA) requires recipients of federal technology funds to comply with specific Internet filtering and policy requirements.
 +
• A filter is required to block material that is “obscene”, “child pornography”, or “harmful to minors”(per ORC)
 +
• The filter will be turned off upon request for adults(17 and older)
 +
• A form is available to suggest that a specific website be blocked or unblocked.
 +
• Please refer to the library’s Internet Safety Policy for more information on Inappropriate Network Use and Supervision and Monitoring.
 +
• The filter will apply to all library computers, including staff computers
 +
 
 +
 
 +
Guidelines for administering the content filter:
 +
 
 +
• By default, the filter is on
 +
• CIPA defines an adult as 17 years or older
 +
• The filter will not be turned off for patron 16 and younger
 +
• The filter should be turned off only after an adult patron has been blocked from a site. It will not be turned off at the start of a session.
 +
• A staff member must enter a username and password at the patron computer in order to turn off the filter for an adult patron.
 +
• All patrons and staff are subjected to the Internet Use Policy Web Site Review Form:
 +
o If a patron would like to suggest a site be permanently added or removed from the filter’s list of blocked sites, please have them fill out the form and send the form to IT.
 +
• The filter may be turned off on a staff computer only when a staff member needs to access a blocked site. IT must be informed before doing so.
 +
 
 +
Turning the filter off:
 +
 
 +
1. Open a new Internet Explorer window
 +
2. On the public internet homepage, click the link labeled “Disable Content Filter”
 +
3. At this point, inform the patron that if the computer is left idle for 5 minutes, the filter will reset
 +
4. Click the “Disable Filter” link.
 +
5. Login with the following:
 +
Username: staff
 +
Password: letemin
 +
6. Click OK or press the Enter key
 +
7. You will receive a message saying the filter is off
 +
 
 +
* Do not let the patron see the password
 +
 +
Wireless Hotspot Troubleshooting
 +
 
 +
To sign-up a patron:
 +
 
 +
1. Give the patron the hotspot information, and inform them that their network settings need to be configured for DHCP.
 +
• To check if DHCP is enabled: Click Start button > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections, then select the wireless network icon, then select “Change settings of this connection” in the network task pane on the left. A new window opens called “Wireless Network Connection Properties”. Scroll through the connection protocols until you find “Internet Protocol TCP/IP”, Select this option and click the Properties button that becomes available. In the new window, make sure the “Obtain an IP Address Automatically” radio button is selected.

Troubleshooting

• Make sure the network card is properly seated, or if it is a internal wireless device, make sure the wireless network adapter is enabled and functioning properly
 +
o Click Start Button > Control Panel > Network Connections. If the wireless icon is disabled it will be grayed out. To enable it, right-click the wireless icon and click Enable.
 +
• Make sure the patron is connecting to the right wireless network.
 +
o Click Start Button > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right-click the wireless icon, then click “View Available Wireless Networks”. When the wireless networks window opens, verify that the PPL_Hotspot is selected.
 +
 
 +
General Information

• Patrons using their laptops cannot have the filter disabled
 +
• Patrons cannot print directly from their laptop, let them know they can print from library computers, or you can print for them from the staff computer.
 +
• Do not touch patron laptops, you may guide them through settings
 +
• Patrons must follow all library policies including the Internet Use Policy.
 +
• The wireless hotspot range depends on the patron’s device.
 +

 +
ITC Staff Rules
 +
 
 +
ITC Staff should follow these rules when at the ITC Desk:
 +
 
 +
Refer patrons to the Reference desk if they need information, and do no not want to look it up themselves. 
 +
Ex. “I want information on arthritis”. Staff may assist patrons with searching, but not guide them to specific information or forms.
 +
 
 +
When asked technical support questions (non-library):
 +
• Suggest a class, a book, etc
 +
• Don’t attempt to answer their question
 +
• Don’t refer them to a specific person or business
 +
• If asked to sign them up for an e-mail account or type a document for them, explain that we don’t provide these services. We can however, direct them to a program or website.
 +
 
 +
Classes:
 +
• Don’t sign anyone up for classes more than two weeks in advance
 +
• Print the next days classes at the beginning of the day, then call patrons throughout the day
 +
• Verify patrons at the beginning of class
 +
• Call absent patrons to verify that they are still coming to future classes
 +
 
 +
Supervisory meeting minutes:
 +
• All staff are required to read the minutes every week. Minutes are sent through e-mail and archived on the staff intranet
 +
 
 +
While at the ITC desk, staff members are to maintain a professional manner at all times:
 +
• No talking about patrons or other staff
 +
• If you have a visitor, you do not talk to them at a public desk. Speak with them away from the desk while on your break
 +
• No personal phone calls. If it is an emergency, you may make a brief call
 +
• If you need to leave the desk for a few minutes, call reference and ask if they can cover the desk.
 +
• Wait and walk down with the rest of the staff at closing time. Keep in mind there may be a delay if there are still patrons in the building
 +
• No personal surfing, e-mail, downloads, etc at the ITC Desk. Personal use of a public desk computer is strictly prohibited.
 +
 +
ITC Patron Rules

The Following Behavior is prohibited:
 +
• Loud/Boisterous Behavior
 +
• Harassing other patron or staff
 +
• Disturbing other patrons in any way
 +
• Profanity or abusive language
 +
• Fighting
 +
• Running
 +
• No food or drink in the ITC area
 +
• If patrons do not follow the rules, they will be asked to leave the library premises.
 +
• If they continue to harass you, try to get them out of the ITC area, and ask another staff member for assistance (try to direct them toward reference, or call reference) it’s better to have a witness.
 +
• Be overly polite, use a calm and business-like tone, and whatever you do, DO NOT TOUCH THEM!
 +
• Alert Paige, Jenny, security or police, if necessary.
 +
 
 +
Internet Policy Highlights

Internet Use Policy
 +
 
 +
Patron Access to the Internet
 +
 
 +
The Portsmouth Public Library provides public access to the Internet through the Ohio Public Library
 +
Information Network (OPLIN).
 +
 
 +
Misuse or abuse of Library computers or Internet access may result in suspension of Internet access
 +
privileges including a one-week suspension for the first violation and permanent suspension for a
 +
second violation.
 +
 
 +
 
 +
Guidelines:
 +
 
 +
* All patrons who access the Internet on a Library computer must first acknowledge acceptance of the
 +
  provisions of this policy.
 +
* All patrons who access the Internet must present a Portsmouth Public Library borrower’s card or
 +
  picture ID with age verification and sign the computer use log for each session.
 +
* Patrons who use Library computers to access the Internet do so at their own risk.  Patrons are
 +
  advised to use caution when sending personal information such as name, address, social security
 +
  number, or credit card information over the Internet.
 +
* The library reserves the right to regulate the use of computers including the amount of time a
 +
  computer may be used, printing restrictions and fees, etc.
 +
* The library reserves the right to terminate an Internet session for any policy violation or misuse,
 +
  or if the computer is unattended.
 +
 
 +
 
 +
Children’s Use of the Internet:
 +
 
 +
* Patrons under the age of 18 who wish to use the Internet must have a parental consent form on file
 +
  and a computer use sticker on their library cards.
 +
* It is not possible for Library staff to monitor children.  Parents and guardians are responsible for
 +
  their children’s use of the Internet.  Parents and children are encouraged to read Child Safety on the
 +

do not help.
 
• If patrons need in-depth help, recommend classes, books or the Quick Guides.
 
• Always be polite and helpful when assisting a patron(remember, they don’t have the knowledge you do)
 
• If a computer locks up, move the patron to another desk if available, the reset the computer that is locked. Do
 
not reset the computer in front of the patron
 
• Remember, as a Portsmouth Public Library member, you do not have to put up with threats or patrons cursing at
 
you. If they do so, tell them you will contact security. If you are having difficulties, you can contact Becky or, if
 
she is unavailable, you can contact the reference desk.
 
• Refer reference questions to the reference desk.
 
• If patron indicates impairment, recommend the AT station!! Part D: Signing Out Headphones

• Black & White printouts are $0.10, Color printouts are $0.50 per side. Patrons should be advised to ask for

Payment Procedures

What to do when you need to call off work:

When the library is closed due to snow:
 
• You will get a call from the IT Coordinator if the library is being closed due to snow.

the sign-in sheet clipboard.
 
• If you need to take a break 5 minutes or more, ask someone from the IT office or alert Reference that the desk
 
will be unattended for a few minutes, and they may cover as needed. Part J: Filter Procedures
 
General Information:
 
The Children’s Internet Protection Act(CIPA) requires recipients of federal technology funds to comply with specific
 
Internet filtering and policy requirements.
 
• A filter is required to block material that is “obscene”, “child pornography”, or “harmful to minors”(per ORC)
 
• The filter will be turned off upon request for adults(17 and older)
 
• A form is available to suggest that a specific website be blocked or unblocked.
 
• Please refer to the library’s Internet Safety Policy for more information on Inappropriate Network Use and
 
Supervision and Monitoring.
 
• The filter will apply to all library computers, including staff computers
 
Guidelines for administering the content filter:
 
• By default, the filter is on
 
• CIPA defines an adult as 17 years or older
 
• The filter will not be turned off for patron 16 and younger
 
• The filter should be turned off only after an adult patron has been blocked from a site. It will not be turned off at
 
the start of a session.
 
• A staff member must enter a username and password at the patron computer in order to turn off the filter for an
 
adult patron.
 
• All patrons and staff are subjected to the Internet Use Policy Web Site Review Form:
 
o If a patron would like to suggest a site be permanently added or removed from the filter’s list of blocked
 
sites, please have them fill out the form and send the form to IT.
 
• The filter may be turned off on a staff computer only when a staff member needs to access a blocked site. IT
 
must be informed before doing so.
 
Turning the filter off:
 
1. Open a new Internet Explorer window
 
2. On the “Surfin” page, click the link on the right side of the page labeled “Filter Access”
 
3. At this point, inform the patron that if the computer is left idle for 5 minutes, the filter will reset
 
4. Click the “Disable Filter” link.
 
5. Login with the following: 
 
Username: staff
 
Password: trnff
 
6. Click OK or press the Enter key
 
7. You will receive a message saying the filter is off
 
* Do not let the patron see the password Part K:  Wireless Hotspot Troubleshooting
 
To sign-up a patron:
 
1. When a patron request access to the hotspot, press the Print button on the DLINK printer to generate a username
 
and password. 
 
2. Inform the patron that the username/password should all be capitalized and their network settings need to be
 
configured for DHCP.
 
• To check if DHCP is enabled: Click Start button > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections >
 
Network Connections, then select the wireless network icon, then select “Change settings of this
 
connection” in the network task pane on the left. A new window opens called “Wireless Network
 
Connection Properties”. Scroll through the connection protocols until you find “Internet Protocol
 
TCP/IP”, Select this option and click the Properties button that becomes available. In the new window,
 
make sure the “Obtain an IP Address Automatically” radio button is selected.
 
Troubleshooting
 
• Make sure the network card is properly seated, or if it is a internal wireless device, make sure the wireless
 
network adapter is enabled and functioning properly
 
o Click Start Button > Control Panel > Network Connections. If the wireless icon is disabled it will be
 
grayed out. To enable it, right-click the wireless icon and click Enable.
 
• Make sure the patron is connecting to the right wireless network.
 
o Click Start Button > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right-click the wireless icon, then click
 
“View Available Wireless Networks”. When the wireless networks window opens, verify that the
 
PPL_Hotspot is selected.
 
General Information
 
• Patrons using their laptops cannot have the filter disabled
 
• Access time for a wireless ticket is two hours and must be used within 24 hours
 
• Do not touch patron laptops, you may guide them through settings
 
• Patrons must follow all library policies including the Internet Use Policy.
 
• The receipt says there is a charge of one cent, but there is no charge
 
• The wireless hotspot is accessible in the Information Technology Center and the area of Reference closest to the
 
ITC Section II
 
Part A: Signing Patrons up for Classes
 
The Training Class Database is located on the Intranet. The ITC Staff should be the only staff
 
using this database.
 
• Click the Training Class link on the left side of the Staff Central page.
 
• A dialog box will appear, requiring the following username and password:
 
o Username: itcstaff
 
o Password: training
 
• To navigate through the database, use the menu at the bottom left corner of the screen
 
To add a Patron to the database:
 
1. Click the Patrons link in the menu
 
2. Enter the first and last name
 
3. Click search
 
4. If the patron is not in the database, click Add a Patron
 
5. Enter the patron’s contact information
 
6. Click Add Patron
 
7. After the database loads the list of current patron info, click save changes(the browser window will refresh, then
 
you may continue)
 
To add a Patron to a Class:
 
1. Verify the patron is in the patron database
 
2. Click on the class the patron wishes to sign-up for
 
3. Select the patron from the drop down list
 
4. Click the Add button
 
5. Click the Update button to show the date they were added to the database
 
6. You can only sign up 8 people per class and 2 alternates
 
To remove a Patron from a Class
 
1. Click on the class the patron is signed up for
 
2. Locate their name in the list
 
3. Click on the Remove button next to the name Part B: Class Confirmation Procedures
 
ITC Staff must contact patrons who have signed up for training classes one day prior to that
 
class
 
1. Open the training class database
 
2. Click on the class name
 
3. Make a print out of the class list
 
4. Contact the patrons
 
5. Click on the Update button next to the name of the patron once they have been contact
 
• If a patron cannot be reached, note the name(s) and number(s) of the patron(s) that cannot be reached

In the event that a class is canceled ITC desk staff should do the following:
 
1. Open the training class database
 
2. Click on the class that has been canceled
 
3. Printout the class list

The Portsmouth Public Library provides public access to the Internet through the Ohio Public Library
 
Information Network (OPLIN). 
 
Misuse or abuse of Library computers or Internet access may result in suspension of Internet access 
 
privileges including a one-week suspension for the first violation and permanent suspension for a
 
second violation.
 
Guidelines: 
 
* All patrons who access the Internet on a Library computer must first acknowledge acceptance of the 
 
  provisions of this policy.
 
* All patrons who access the Internet must present a Portsmouth Public Library borrower’s card or 
 
  picture ID with age verification and sign the computer use log for each session. 
 
* Patrons who use Library computers to access the Internet do so at their own risk.  Patrons are 
 
  advised to use caution when sending personal information such as name, address, social security 
 
  number, or credit card information over the Internet.
 
* The library reserves the right to regulate the use of computers including the amount of time a 
 
  computer may be used, printing restrictions and fees, etc. 
 
* The library reserves the right to terminate an Internet session for any policy violation or misuse, 
 
  or if the computer is unattended.
 
Children’s Use of the Internet:
 
* Patrons under the age of 18 who wish to use the Internet must have a parental consent form on file 
 
  and a computer use sticker on their library cards. 
 
* It is not possible for Library staff to monitor children.  Parents and guardians are responsible for
 
  their children’s use of the Internet.  Parents and children are encouraged to read Child Safety on the

• If patrons do not follow the rules, they will be asked to leave the library premises.
 
• If they continue to harass you, try to get them out of the ITC area, and ask another staff member for assistance
 
(try to direct them toward reference, or call reference) it’s better to have a witness.
 
• Be overly polite, use a calm and business-like tone, and whatever you do, DO NOT TOUCH THEM!
 
• Alert Paige, Jenny, Beverly, security or police, if necessary.
 
Internet Policy Highlights

ITC Staff should follow these rules when at the ITC Desk:
 
Refer patrons to the Reference desk if they need information, and do no not want to look it up themselves. 
 
Ex. “I want information on arthritis”. Staff may assist patrons with searching, but not guide them to specific
 
information or forms. 
 
When asked technical support questions (non-library):
 
• Suggest a class, a book, etc
 
• Don’t attempt to answer their question
 
• Don’t refer them to a specific person or business
 
• If asked to sign them up for an e-mail account or type a document for them, explain that we don’t provide these
 
services. We can however, direct them to a program or website.
 
Classes:
 
• Don’t sign anyone up for classes more than two weeks in advance
 
• Print the next days classes at the beginning of the day, then call patrons throughout the day
 
• Verify patrons at the beginning of class
 
• Call absent patrons to verify that they are still coming to future classes
 
Supervisory meeting minutes:
 
• All staff are required to read the minutes every week. Minutes are sent through e-mail and archived on the staff
 
intranet
 
While at the ITC desk, staff members are to maintain a professional manner at all times:
 
• No talking about patrons or other staff
 
• If you have a visitor, you do not talk to them at a public desk. Speak with them away from the desk while on
 
your break
 
• No personal phone calls. If it is an emergency, you may make a brief call
 
• If you need to leave the desk for a few minutes, call reference and ask if they can cover the desk.
 
• Wait and walk down with the rest of the staff at closing time. Keep in mind there may be a delay if there are
 
still patrons in the building
 
• No personal surfing, e-mail, downloads, etc at the ITC Desk. Personal use of a public desk computer is strictly
 
prohibited. Part D: Restricted Patrons

If you see a patron viewing inappropriate material, promptly explain to them it is in violation of the Internet Use Policy

• Promptly explain to them they are in violation of the Library’s Acceptable Use Policy and that any further violation may result in a suspension.  Also, tell them that they have lost their computer use privilege for that day.
If you see a patron viewing inappropriate material, and they have already received one warning, explain to them that

• Fill out the Staff Report Form and Warning Letter, giving their name and a brief description. In the case of a juvenile under the age of 18, write down their library card number, age and a brief description.

Vending Machine Guide
+
To view the cash box meters:
+
1. Open back door on cash box.
+
2. The control panel is located at the top of the door. Press the Yes and No buttons simultaneously. The screen
+
should start flashing Cash.
+
3. Press the Y button to go to the next menu item.
+
• CASH – cash deposited for printouts
+
• BOX – Money in cash drawer since last cleared
+
• BILL – Total bills accepted since last cleared
+
• TUBE – Total change currently in tubes
+
      4.  When you want to exit, press the Yes button until the box returns to vending mode
+
Resetting the totals:
+
1. Follow the steps above to view the cash box meters.
+
2. Navigate to the BOX or BILL display.
+
3. Press and hold the No button, then press the Yes button and hold both down for 5 seconds.

4. Release all buttons, then press the Yes button to return to vending mode

Adding funds to the cash box:

1. Insert $5.00 in assorted coins(nickels, dimes and quarters) into the cash box.

Opening Procedures

Computers

The Internet, Child, Adaptive Technology, Reservation and Staff computers are set to automatically login when powered on. CASSIE will automatically load after the windows account has logged in.

Staff Computers – if you need to manually log in

  • Log on to the staff computers with the username “itcstaff” and the password “ppl2003”
  • When Cassie loads, you can log in with the Patron ID: “itcstaff” and the Password: ppl2003

  • Log on to public internet stations with the username “all” with no password
  • Log on to child stations with the username “child” with no password
  • Log on to AT station with username “all” with no password
  • Log on to Reservation station with username “all” with no password

Training Computers

  • Turn on all computers and monitors. Training lab computers will automatically log in under the “Training” account

Homework/Grant Computers

  • Turn on all computers and monitors. Homework/Grant computers will automatically log in under the “Homework” account with the password “pplstudent”

Printers

• Turn on both Color and Black & White printers. • Make sure both printers are full of paper. • One ream of paper should be in the cabinet at all times. Paper is stored in the Training Lab and in the supply closet outside YS. • At least one replacement toner cartridge must be on hand for B&W printer. Toner is also kept in supply closet outside YS. • Notify IT if color printer indicates any color is low. Color toner is in the admin workroom in the cabinet beneath the color printer. • Change receipt printer paper as needed. Receipt paper is kept in the supply closet. • When Guest Passes start to look faded, change the ink ribbon in the receipt printer. The ink ribbons are located in the supply closet. • Notify Linda and IT if supplies need ordered.

Cleaning

• The opening staff member(s) should clean all desks, chairs, computers, monitors and mice. • Pickup scrap paper and pencils left on desktops.

Training Classes

• Print out the next day’s class schedule and call to verify patrons. • Turn on Training Lab computers for class.

Evening Procedures

• Lab closes 15 minutes before library • Shut Down Computers

Patron Computers

• Select computers in CASSIE’s Control window • Click the Shutdown button on the left side on the window(The Reservation Station can also be shut down this way)

• Collect and count bills from the Jamex vending machine • Enter vending machine total into Circ o If there is a refund slip in the money bag, subtract the refund amount from the cash machine total, and then enter it in circ. If there is no cash machine money, make a note on the refund slip, and let Becky or Linda know ASAP • Take money bag to Adult Circulation • Check paper in printer and fill if necessary • Push chairs in and pick up trash • Count children’s headphones(2)


Training Classes

To access the Training Class database

• Click the Training Class Database link under the Databases section on Staff Central. • A dialog box will appear, requiring the following username and password: o Username: itcstaff o Password: training • To navigate through the database, use the menu at the bottom left corner of the screen

To add a Patron to the database:

1. Click the Patrons link in the menu 2. Enter the first and last name 3. Click search 4. If the patron is not in the database, click Add a Patron 5. Enter the patron’s contact information 6. Click Add Patron 7. After the database loads the list of current patron info, click save changes(the browser window will refresh, then you may continue)

To add a Patron to a Class:

1. Verify the patron is in the patron database 2. Click on the class the patron wishes to sign-up for 3. Select the patron from the drop down list 4. Click the Add button 5. Click the Update button to show the date they were added to the database 6. You can only sign up 8 people per class and 2 alternates

To remove a Patron from a Class

1. Click on the class the patron is signed up for 2. Locate their name in the list 3. Click on the Remove button next to the name

Calling class patrons

1. Open the training class database 2. Click on the class name 3. Make a print out of the class list 4. Contact the patrons 5. Click on the Update button next to the name of the patron once they have been contact • If a patron cannot be reached, note the name(s) and number(s) of the patron(s) that cannot be reached

Canceling a class

1. Open the training class database 2. Click on the class that has been canceled 3. Printout the class list 4. Call patrons to inform them of the canceled class • If a patron cannot be reached, try again later

Down Time/Cleaning Procedures

ITC desk staff members are expected to utilize their time efficiently; therefore when you’re experiencing down time, please refer to the list below: • Clean monitors and mice • Clean tables, chairs and desktops • Pickup scrap paper and pencils left on desktops • Clean training lab • Push chairs in after people leave • Be observant and assist patrons as needed • Print out the next day’s class schedule and call to verify patrons • Make sure all training lab computers and monitors are off if classes are done for the day • Fill paper in printer, if needed • Check phone for messages • Make copies of class schedules and forms as needed • Check supplies in cabinet, restock as needed o Floppy Disks o Flash Drives o Headphones o Paper o Toner o Forms o Cleaners and rags o Paper clips, staples, etc

Cleaning

• Clean the Training Lab as needed • Clean Staff computers as needed • Clean the public access computers in Adult Services, Youth Services, and Local History on a weekly basis. These computers include: Adult Services • PACs Youth Services • Games PCs • PACs • Self-Checkout PC Local History • Internet PC

ITC Cleaning Procedures • Clean Monitors – use yellow micro fiber cloths, lightly dampen if necessary • Spray desk and chairs with furniture polish as needed • Dust the shelf underneath each desk, as well as the top of each desk • Clean PCs(not monitors), keyboards, mice, with Pledge cleaner • Clean staff desk using same procedure as above • Clean headphones with alcohol wipes after each use

    • The ITC will be checked for cleanliness periodically**

Guidelines on Patron Assistance

These rules apply to all staff working in the Information Technology Center

• Call Becky as soon as possible in the event of any non-routine problem. o Work 354-5724 or ext. 219 o Home 574-1262 o Cell 285-2147.

• Assist patrons as much as possible, but refer reference questions to Adult Services.

• When helping a patron, do not touch the mouse or keyboard, walk them through the problem.

• If assisting a patron with anything involving personal information, advise them of privacy issues.

• If patrons need in-depth help, recommend classes.

• Always be polite and helpful when assisting a patron(remember, they don’t have the knowledge you do, and people can become frustrated easily with computer problems.)

• If a computer locks up, remotely restart it using the CASSIE Control window. The patron will still be logged on to that computer after it restarts.

• DO NOT use CASSIE’s Send Message feature to send messages to patrons. If there is a problem, walk over to them and explain the rules.

• Remember, as a Portsmouth Public Library staff member, you do not have to put up with threats or patrons cursing at you. If they do so, tell them you will contact security. If you are having difficulties, you can contact Becky or, if she is unavailable, you can contact the reference desk.

Taking Breaks/Scheduling

• When working by yourself and you need to take a restroom break, you may use the “Will Return” sign. If you need to take a break 5 minutes or more, ask someone from the IT office to cover, or alert Reference that the desk will be unattended for a few minutes.

• Public Computers may be used, if available, during a lunch or break for non work-related activity such as checking personal email.

• Scheduling is done to benefit the library and its patrons. Scheduling will change as needed to provide the best service.

Employee Call-Off Procedures

What to do when you need to call off work:

• Notify the sickline: 353-7688, following the established library procedure. • Notify the IT Coordinator as soon as you know you will be calling off: 354-5724, or call: 574-1262 or 285-2147 • If it is around or past opening time, also call the reference desk(354-5688) • Notify the IT Coordinator as soon as possible if desk coverage is affected by your absence or delay

When the library is closed due to snow:

• You will get a call from the IT Coordinator if the library is being closed due to snow. • If the library is open and you are not able to come to work, follow the procedures above.

Print Procedures

Printouts

• Black & White printouts are $0.10 and $0.20 for BW duplex. Color printouts are $0.50 and $1.00 for color duplex. Patrons should be advised to ask for assistance before printing. • Patrons are allowed $1.00 of free pages per day, after which they must add funds to their account before they can print again.

Patrons may be reimbursed for blank pages

• If a patron wishes to be reimbursed for blank pages you can give them a refund • The patron may also be given credit to their printing account by looking the patron up in CASSIE, adding funds to their account, and clicking save • If the money bag is low on change, write the patron a refund slip and send them to Adult Circulation • Patrons cannot be reimbursed for the $1.00 of free printing they get per day, you may reimburse them for anything over the $1.00. • When in doubt, reimburse them.

Payment Procedures

• The money bag will have $5.00 of assorted change every day • If a staff member takes money for a printouts or a disk, enter it into circulation immediately after the transaction is complete. Do not wait until the end of the day to enter it into circ.

Margins

• Select File • Then Print • A dialog box will appear • Choose the appropriate print(Black & White or Color) • Fix the margins as needed • Then select OK • Follow further Printing steps detailed in the CASSIE User Guide.

Headphones

• Patrons may purchase headphones for $3.00 each. • Headphones need to be entered into Circ as a DISK. • Headphones will be provided for the Child computer. • Patrons may to bring in their own headphones for use with our computers. • When the desk supply of headphones is low, notify someone in the IT Office.


CASSIE Printing Procedures

Printouts • Patrons should be advised to ask for assistance before printing. • Patrons are allowed $1.00 of free pages per day, after which they must add funds to their account before they can print. • If a patron wishes to be refunded for blank pages: o The patron may be given credit by looking the patron up in CASSIE, adding funds to their Paid Print Account, and clicking Save. o Credits to guest accounts can be transferred to a new guest account only if the patron has the original guest account slip. o Patrons cannot receive a refund for the dollar of free printing they get per day; you may credit them only for prints they paid for after the dollar.

• If a patron wishes to be reimbursed for an unused print balance: o Fill out the “Unused Print Balance Refund” slip and attach it to the deposit receipt.

• Enter print payments immediately for each transaction: o Accept payment for each patron o Add funds to the patron’s CASSIE Account o Input the payments in circulation • Create the charge in circulation: • Go to “Charges” tab of patron account “money, money” • Click on “New Charge” • Use fine code CP • Enter amount and click OK

Instructions for Tendering Fines Document Scanning Procedures

Scanning Documents for Patrons

1. Turn on the scanner and place the patron’s document on the labeled corner on the scanner bed. 2. Open the HP Image Zone shortcut located on the Desktop or Start Menu. 3. Click the From Scanner button near the bottom left corner of the window. 4. When prompted, click Scan, and wait for the document to finish scanning. 5. You may crop the image using the tiny black squares surrounding the image. 6. Click Accept. • If you need to scan another image, click Yes when prompted, then click the New Scan button and place the next document on the scanner bed. Repeat step 4. 7. The finished scan will be shown in the HP Image Zone window.

Transferring Documents for Patrons

After being scanned, patron documents will be saved to the My Scans folder located under My Documents. A shortcut to this folder has been placed on the Start Menu. The documents are stored in folders organized by year and month – example: 2009-11(Nov)

Documents can be copied to a patron’s own storage device(Flash drive, floppy, etc.), or copied to their computer using a staff flash drive. Once the patron has a copy of their documents, delete the originals from the staff computer and/or flash drive. Do not leave patron files on the staff computer or flash drives.

You may then assist the patron with their files on a public computer.


Event Calendar Procedures

After a training class schedule has been finalized, classes need to be added to the Event Calendar.

To add classes to the Event Calendar: 1. Open Internet Explorer 2. Navigate to the address www.yourppl.org 3. Click the Log In/Register link 4. Log in: Username: itcstaff

Password: ppl2003

5. Click the Create Content link 6. Click the Computer Classes link 7. Enter the following information • Title • Date of Program o Clicking the More option below allows you to add multiple dates for the same class • Body – Enter the class description • Scheduling Options – use the format mm-dd-yyyy hh:mm Hours and Minutes are in Military time o Publish on – Enter the current day’s date and time o Unpublish on – Enter the date and time of the class • Click Submit • Click Logout

The Children’s Internet Protection Act(CIPA) requires recipients of federal technology funds to comply with specific Internet filtering and policy requirements. • A filter is required to block material that is “obscene”, “child pornography”, or “harmful to minors”(per ORC) • The filter will be turned off upon request for adults(17 and older) • A form is available to suggest that a specific website be blocked or unblocked. • Please refer to the library’s Internet Safety Policy for more information on Inappropriate Network Use and Supervision and Monitoring. • The filter will apply to all library computers, including staff computers


Guidelines for administering the content filter:

• By default, the filter is on • CIPA defines an adult as 17 years or older • The filter will not be turned off for patron 16 and younger • The filter should be turned off only after an adult patron has been blocked from a site. It will not be turned off at the start of a session. • A staff member must enter a username and password at the patron computer in order to turn off the filter for an adult patron. • All patrons and staff are subjected to the Internet Use Policy Web Site Review Form: o If a patron would like to suggest a site be permanently added or removed from the filter’s list of blocked sites, please have them fill out the form and send the form to IT. • The filter may be turned off on a staff computer only when a staff member needs to access a blocked site. IT must be informed before doing so.

Turning the filter off:

1. Open a new Internet Explorer window 2. On the public internet homepage, click the link labeled “Disable Content Filter” 3. At this point, inform the patron that if the computer is left idle for 5 minutes, the filter will reset 4. Click the “Disable Filter” link. 5. Login with the following: Username: staff Password: letemin 6. Click OK or press the Enter key 7. You will receive a message saying the filter is off

  • Do not let the patron see the password

Wireless Hotspot Troubleshooting

To sign-up a patron:

1. Give the patron the hotspot information, and inform them that their network settings need to be configured for DHCP. • To check if DHCP is enabled: Click Start button > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections, then select the wireless network icon, then select “Change settings of this connection” in the network task pane on the left. A new window opens called “Wireless Network Connection Properties”. Scroll through the connection protocols until you find “Internet Protocol TCP/IP”, Select this option and click the Properties button that becomes available. In the new window, make sure the “Obtain an IP Address Automatically” radio button is selected.

Troubleshooting

• Make sure the network card is properly seated, or if it is a internal wireless device, make sure the wireless network adapter is enabled and functioning properly o Click Start Button > Control Panel > Network Connections. If the wireless icon is disabled it will be grayed out. To enable it, right-click the wireless icon and click Enable. • Make sure the patron is connecting to the right wireless network. o Click Start Button > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right-click the wireless icon, then click “View Available Wireless Networks”. When the wireless networks window opens, verify that the PPL_Hotspot is selected.

General Information

• Patrons using their laptops cannot have the filter disabled • Patrons cannot print directly from their laptop, let them know they can print from library computers, or you can print for them from the staff computer. • Do not touch patron laptops, you may guide them through settings • Patrons must follow all library policies including the Internet Use Policy. • The wireless hotspot range depends on the patron’s device.



ITC Staff Rules

ITC Staff should follow these rules when at the ITC Desk:

Refer patrons to the Reference desk if they need information, and do no not want to look it up themselves. Ex. “I want information on arthritis”. Staff may assist patrons with searching, but not guide them to specific information or forms.

When asked technical support questions (non-library): • Suggest a class, a book, etc • Don’t attempt to answer their question • Don’t refer them to a specific person or business • If asked to sign them up for an e-mail account or type a document for them, explain that we don’t provide these services. We can however, direct them to a program or website.

Classes: • Don’t sign anyone up for classes more than two weeks in advance • Print the next days classes at the beginning of the day, then call patrons throughout the day • Verify patrons at the beginning of class • Call absent patrons to verify that they are still coming to future classes

Supervisory meeting minutes: • All staff are required to read the minutes every week. Minutes are sent through e-mail and archived on the staff intranet

While at the ITC desk, staff members are to maintain a professional manner at all times: • No talking about patrons or other staff • If you have a visitor, you do not talk to them at a public desk. Speak with them away from the desk while on your break • No personal phone calls. If it is an emergency, you may make a brief call • If you need to leave the desk for a few minutes, call reference and ask if they can cover the desk. • Wait and walk down with the rest of the staff at closing time. Keep in mind there may be a delay if there are still patrons in the building • No personal surfing, e-mail, downloads, etc at the ITC Desk. Personal use of a public desk computer is strictly prohibited.

ITC Patron Rules

The Following Behavior is prohibited: • Loud/Boisterous Behavior • Harassing other patron or staff • Disturbing other patrons in any way • Profanity or abusive language • Fighting • Running • No food or drink in the ITC area • If patrons do not follow the rules, they will be asked to leave the library premises. • If they continue to harass you, try to get them out of the ITC area, and ask another staff member for assistance (try to direct them toward reference, or call reference) it’s better to have a witness. • Be overly polite, use a calm and business-like tone, and whatever you do, DO NOT TOUCH THEM! • Alert Paige, Jenny, security or police, if necessary.

Internet Policy Highlights • No more than two people at a computer • $1.00 of free printed pages per day • It is the patron’s responsibility to learn any program he/she wishes to access • Patrons must present their picture ID on library card • Patrons under 18 must have the green computer sticker and parental permission • Obscene graphic/text is strictly prohibited

Miscellaneous Information: • Failure to return headphones to the desk may incur a charge • Your session may be terminated if you leave your computer unattended • The ITC closes 15 minutes before the library • Floppy disks are $1.00 each • Flash drives are $5.00 each

Internet Use Policy

Patron Access to the Internet

The Portsmouth Public Library provides public access to the Internet through the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN).

Misuse or abuse of Library computers or Internet access may result in suspension of Internet access privileges including a one-week suspension for the first violation and permanent suspension for a second violation.


Guidelines:

  • All patrons who access the Internet on a Library computer must first acknowledge acceptance of the
  provisions of this policy.
  • All patrons who access the Internet must present a Portsmouth Public Library borrower’s card or
  picture ID with age verification and sign the computer use log for each session. 
  • Patrons who use Library computers to access the Internet do so at their own risk. Patrons are
  advised to use caution when sending personal information such as name, address, social security 
  number, or credit card information over the Internet.
  • The library reserves the right to regulate the use of computers including the amount of time a
  computer may be used, printing restrictions and fees, etc. 
  • The library reserves the right to terminate an Internet session for any policy violation or misuse,
  or if the computer is unattended.


Children’s Use of the Internet:

  • Patrons under the age of 18 who wish to use the Internet must have a parental consent form on file
  and a computer use sticker on their library cards. 
  • It is not possible for Library staff to monitor children. Parents and guardians are responsible for
  their children’s use of the Internet.  Parents and children are encouraged to read Child Safety on the
  Information Highway, jointly produced by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and 
  the Interactive Services Association. This publication is available at the Public Service Desk. 
  • Children and young adults without parental permission to use the Internet may only use Library computers
  with Internet access disabled. 


Restrictions:

  • The use of OPLIN and the Internet to engage in any activity that constitutes violation of local, state,
  and/or federal laws is prohibited. Additionally, any use that violates the policies of the Portsmouth 
  Public Library is prohibited. 
  • Patrons may not send, receive, or display text and/or graphics that may reasonably be construed as
  obscene by community standards.
  • The Library’s computers may be used for educational, informational, and recreational purposes only; not
  for unauthorized, illegal, or unethical purposes. 
  • Internet access is available only during normal Library hours, subject to periodic maintenance.
  • Computers in the Youth Services Department are reserved for the use of children or parents who are
  assisting their children. 
  • Computers may be used on a first-come, first-served basis, and cannot be reserved.
  • No more than two people may be at a Library Computer at any time. Only the person who is signed up may
  access the keyboard, mouse and headphones. 
  • Any behavior that disturbs other patrons is prohibited. Patrons must observe the Library’s policy on
  Behavior and Conduct on Library Property.
  • Patrons may not modify or change settings, turn off, or reboot public computers.
  • Software may not be installed on Library Computers. Files may be downloaded or saved to removable
  storage media such as 3 ½" diskettes or Zip disks only.  The library is not responsible for any damage
  to personal media.
  • Patrons may not misrepresent themselves as another user or attempt to gain unauthorized access to files,
  passwords, data, software, or any network or database.


Library Staff Assistance:

  • As time allows, Library staff will be happy to help patrons access information through the Internet, and
  assist with use of computer equipment. However, Library staff cannot assist patrons with anything involving 
  personal information or personal accounts including email, chat rooms, buying or selling, etc.  
  • It is the patron’s responsibility to learn to use any software or website s/he wishes to access.
  • Patrons with special needs should contact the Technology Center at 354-5688, ext. 204 to inquire about
  training or accommodations for disabilities.

Procedures for Patrons Viewing Inappropriate Materials

NOTE: Please follow the procedures below when confronting a patron that has accessed material deemed inappropriate by the Administration and the Library Board. If you have any doubt concerning what may or may not be construed as “Inappropriate Material”, please read the section below titled “Ohio Revised Code Section 2907.01 E, F, & G.


First Warning: If you observe a patron viewing inappropriate material and their name is not on the Restricted Patron List, promptly fill out the Staff Report Form and Verbal Warning Letter located in the filling cabinet.

• Promptly explain to them they are in violation of the Library’s Acceptable Use Policy and that any further violation may result in a suspension. Also, tell them that they have lost their computer use privilege for that day. • Fill out the Staff Report Form and Warning Letter, giving their name and a brief description. In the case of a juvenile under the age of 18, write down their library card number, age and a brief description. • Give the patron the warning letter. Make three copies of the letter and report: One for the file, one for Becky, and one for the director. • Their name will then be placed n the First Warning List at the ITC desk.

Second Warning: If you observe a patron viewing inappropriate material and their name is on the Restricted Patrons List, fill out the Staff Report Form and Suspension Letter located in the filling cabinet.

• Promptly explain to them they are in violation of the Library’s Acceptable Use Policy and that this is their second violation, therefore they have lost their computer use privilege for a week beginning on the day they receive the letter from the staff member. • Fill out the Staff Report Form and the Suspension Letter, giving their name and a brief description. In the case of a juvenile under the age of 18, write down their library card number, age and a brief description. • Give the patron the warning letter. Make three copies of the letter and report: One for the file, one for Becky, and one for the director. • Their name will then be place in the Current Temporary Suspension List located at the desk.

Third Warning: If you observe a patron viewing inappropriate material and their name is on the Past Suspended Patrons List, follow the following steps:

• Promptly explain to them they are in violation of the Library’s Acceptable Use Policy and that this is their third violation (in the case of Juveniles, until the age of 18) These patrons will receive a letter from the Director stating their permanent loss of privileges. Suspension only takes effect when patron receives the letter or has been notified in person. • Fill out the Report Form, getting their name and a brief description. In the case of a Juvenile under the age of 18, write down their library card number, age and a brief description • Their name will then be placed in the Permanent Suspension list at the ITC desk.



Ohio Revised Code 2907.01 (sections E, F, G, H, I, J)

(E) Any material or performance is “harmful to juveniles,” if it is offensive to prevailing standards in the adult community with respect to what is suitable for juveniles, and if any of the following apply: 1. If tends to appeal to the prurient interest of juveniles; 2. It contains a display, description, or representation of sexual activity, masturbation, sexual excitement, or nudity; 3. It contains a display, description, or representation of bestiality or extreme or bizarre violence, cruelty, or brutality; 4. It contains a display, description, or representation of human bodily functions of elimination; 5. It makes repeated use of foul language; 6. It contains a display, description, or representation in lurid detail of the violent physical torture, dismemberment, destruction, or death of a human being; 7. It contains a display, description, or representation of criminal activity that tends to glorify or glamorize the activity, and that, with respect to juveniles, has a dominate tendency to corrupt.

(F) When considered as a whole, and judged with reference to ordinary adults or, if it is designed for sexual deviates or other specially susceptible group, judged with reference to that group, an material or performance is “obscene” if any of the following apply: 1. Its dominant appeal is to prurient interest; 2. Its dominant tendency is to arouse lust by displaying or depicting sexual activity, masturbation, sexual excitement, or nudity in a way that tends to represent human beings as mere objects of sexual appetite; 3. Its dominant tendency is to arouse lust by displaying or depicting bestiality or extreme or bizarre violence, cruelty, or brutality; 4. Its dominant tendency is to appeal to scatological interest by displaying or depicting human bodily functions of elimination in a way that inspires disgust or revulsion in persons with ordinary sensibilities, without serving any genuine scientific, educational, sociological, moral, or artistic purpose. 5. It contains a series of displays or descriptions or sexual activity, masturbation, sexual excitement, nudity, bestiality, extreme or bizarre violence, cruelty, or brutality, or human bodily functions of elimination, the cumulative effect of which is a dominant tendency to appeal to prurient or scatological interest, when the appeal to such an interest is primarily for its own sake or for commercial exploitation, rather than primarily for a genuine scientific, educational, sociological, moral, or artistic purpose.

(G) “Sexual excitement” means the condition of human male or female genitals when in a state of sexual stimulation or arousal.

(H) “Nudity” means the showing, representation, or depiction of human male or female genitals, pubic area, or buttocks with less than a full, opaque covering, or of a female breast with less than a full, opaque covering of any portion thereof below the top of the nipple, or of covered male genitals in a discernibly turgid state.

(I) “Juvenile” means an unmarried person under the age of eighteen.

(J) “Material” means any book, magazine, newspaper, pamphlet, poster, print, picture, figure, image, description, motion picture film, phonographic record, or tape, or other tangible thing capable of arousing interest through sight, sound, or tough.
