101 Opening Procedures
101.1 Computer/Printer Operation:
· Circulation Computers (turn on monitors and enter passwords) ü Select the NBCLERK user ü Enter password (xxxxx) ü Press enter ü Turn on both printers on circulation desk. When printers are ready two green lights will be switch on.
· Catalog Computer (turn monitor and tower on, enter passwords). ü Enter the username: pac ü Enter the password: xxxxx ü Domain should be “Domain”
The PAC (public access catalog) is connected to the Library’s local area network. The PAC is located with the GATES (internet) computers.
· GATES Internet Computers ü Turn on towers and monitors. ü Enter the username: “all” for adult computers and the username: “ child” for the children’s computers. ü All GATES computers are located to the right of the main entrance, except one children’s computer, it is in the juvenile section, to the far right of the main entrance. ü All GATES stations are linked to a printer that is located at the circulation desk. ü Any printed articles should be picked up at the desk and a charge of 10 cents per page will be accessed for the copies.
101.2 Lights: ü Light Switch Locations (all switches listed should be turned on at opening). ü Next to staff entrance door on right side ü Left side of main entrance ü In office on right ü Patron restrooms, left side for men’s, right side for women’s ü Staff break room on left as you enter
101.3 Doors:
ü Front Door
ü In order to unlock the front door remove the allen wrench key from the top drawer in the circulation desk in the same section of the black organizer as the money.
ü Unlock door with front door key from key box.
ü Press and hold the door latch open, insert allen key into hole and turn clockwise and release, also use key to unlock handles on the outside of both doors.
ü Side Staff Door ü The staff door is to be kept locked at all times. The key to the staff door is the same as the front door key.
101.4 Heating and Air:
ü Thermostats ü Five thermostats are located throughout the library. One is on the wall in the adult reference section and another is on the wall in the western section. A third is on the wall in the break room to the left of the door. The fourth and fifth thermostats are in the office and meeting room. ü Three thermostats can be turned to heat or cool by removing the cover with a small key in the top drawer in the circulation desk. The thermostats in break room, reference and western sections have small switches on top in back of thermostat, they switch to heat, cool or off. Temperature should be kept at 70 degrees. The fourth and fifth thermostats are digital and should be set on 70 degrees as well. The meeting room thermostat has a cover that needs to be unlocked with the key in the top drawer in the circulation desk. Flip the panel down and follow directions on the inside.
101.5 Open/Closed Sign:
ü Open/Closed Sign ü Sign is located on the left front door. ü Sign slides up and down. Up is closed, down is open.
101.6 Copier: ü The key for the copier is kept in money drawer at circ desk. ü Turn on copier. Switch is on back left hand side. ü Take meter count and record it on clipboard on right hand side Meter reading is taken from counter in access panel on right hand side of copier.
102 Closing Procedures
102.1 Computers:
· Circulation Computers
ü Go to “start” then “shutdown”. ü Circulation computers will shut down automatically. Do not need to turn off monitor.
· Catalog Computers ü Press “Ctrl” “Alt” “Delete” at the same time. ü Click on “shutdown” ü Click on circle beside “shutdown” ü Click “OK” ü Turn off monitor and tower
· GATES Internet Computers ü Double click on the word “GATES” ü Type password “xxxxx” (use zeros) at the “Log on to Windows” screen ü Click on “shutdown” ü Then on the “Shut Down Windows” screen, click on the pull down windows screen and click on “shutdown” then click on “OK.” ü Turn off switch to receipt printers, leaving the laser jet printer on. ü Turn off monitors only!
102.2 Copier ü Turn off switch on left hand backside of the machine. ü Open coin door, place $ in money bag located at the drawer at circulation desk, leave coin door open.
102.3 Lights
Turn off all lights in these locations:
ü Next to entrance door on left side.
ü Office light on right side of door.
ü Men’s restroom left side-women’s right side.
ü Break room left side of entrance.
ü Left side of staff entrance.
102.4 Doors
· Front Door
ü In order to lock the front door remove the allen key from the top drawer in the circulation desk in the same section of the black organizer as the money. Press and hold the door latch, insert allen key into hole and turn counter clockwise and release handles. Lock both doors with key from key box.
102.5 Open/Closed Sign
ü Sign is located on the left hand side of the front door. ü Sign slides up for closed and down for open.
103 Bank Deposit
ü The bank deposit should be deposited in US Bank, the next block down on left across from the Wal Mart entrance.
ü Paperclip deposit slip from bank onto fine report, put in inter office envelope, and send to Deputy Clerk Treasurer in rounds.
104 Book Drop
ü The book drop is to be emptied twice a day. ü Once before opening. ü One hour before closing. ü The book drop opens by the key kept in money drawer at circulation desk. ü There are two locks on door, unlock both then use key to pull door open. ü Close door and lock both locks. ü Check pull down door for books that may be stuck.
105 Key Box
ü The key box is located inside the maintenance room on right hand wall. ü You need the key kept at the top drawer of the circ desk, to access maintenance room.

106 Phone Operation · Checking Morning Messages ü Make sure phone is on line one. ü Dial 7-354-2160. ü Follow instructions.
107 Copier
· Type (model no.)
ü The copier is a Xerox bookmark 21 copier
· Toner and Paper ü Extra toner is in the break room supply close, extra paper is in cabinet under copier, and in meeting room supply closet ü Toner is installed in the access panel on right hand side of copier (further instructions are located in the manual
· Paper trays ü The copier holds three sizes of paper when it is out of any size the control panel will tell you what size of paper is out and where to fill it. ü To check paper supply, insert gold key (on copier key ring) into the keyhole on the backside of the vending unit. ü Swing the entire vending unit outward and open the middle drawer labeled “Fill Copier Paper Here”. ü The filler paper is located in the bottom compartment. ü ENSURE paper is under the silver tabs (this keeps it from jamming up). ü If you use the last of the refill copier paper more can be located in the meeting room supply closet
· Copier key location
ü The copier key is located at the circulation desk money drawer.
· Copier Manual ü The manual is located on the back left hand side of the copier.

109 Emergency Maintenance:
· Water shut off valve is in janitor’s room along back wall (alley side) and valve is on left. · HVAC: there are two furnace rooms. One room is for the old section and one room for the old section. The old furnace is in the furnace room down the wall from the break room door. The furnaces are labeled 1, 2 and 3. There are shut off switches on the side of each furnace. Also located in the old furnace room is the electrical room (in the back and on the right side of the room) where the circuit breaker box is located.
· Electrical main circuit is the top switch in panel A. If panel is locked, the key is in the key box located in the janitor room.
· There are 2 fire extinguishers: one is located on the wall between the break room door and entrance to women’s rest room. This fire extinguisher is unlocked. The second fire extinguisher is located in the furnace room on the left wall and is also unlocked.
