Library Director’s Duties
The Library Director shall have charge and supervision of all library facilities and the property contained therein and shall be responsible for the exercise of reasonable care for the safety thereof. The Director shall recommend to the Board of Trustees the appointment of and shall assign such employees to such work as is necessary and expedient for the efficient management of the library. The Director shall be responsible for the deportment of employees, and for the execution of all rules governing the library, and shall be responsible for the enforcement of promptness and the exercise of due courtesy by all employees in the discharge of their duties to each other and to the public.

The Library Director shall be responsible for an adequate and proper selection of materials, within the stated policy of the Board; for the efficiency of library service to the public; and for its financial operation within the limitation of the budgeted appropriation. In case of non-exempt employees and part-time or temporary employees, the Director shall have interim authority to appoint such upon recommendation of the Human Resources Coordinator. Such employees have been provided for in the Personnel Manual 906:1 – , provided that such appointment shall be approved by the Board at its next regular meeting and provided that the chair of the Personnel Committee is informed and concurs.

At the close of each fiscal year, the Library Director shall submit to the Board a detailed report of the progress of the library during the previous year and its condition, accompanying the same with such recommendations and suggestions as may seem proper and expedient. The Director shall, at all times, furnish such information as may be requested by the Board or by any committees and shall perform such other duties as may be required by the rules or by the Board.

The Director shall render such aid and assistance to the patrons of the library as is consistent with the performance of his/her duties.

Library Employees
All library employees shall devote the entire time of their employment to the performance of the duties of their positions. They shall undertake such assistance to the Director as may be necessary or as shall be required.

In the case of the absence or disability of the Director, one of such assistants shall be designated by the Director or by the Board of Trustees to act as Director during such absence or disability. An Assistant Director may be designated to routinely serve such function. All employees shall be under the direction and supervision of the Director. All such assistants and employees shall render such aid to the patrons of the library as is consistent with the performance of their duties.

Human Resources Coordinator
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Human Resources Coordinator (Personnel Manual 104:1) is responsible for the assurance of reasonable, fair, and impartial selection of employees; monitors the impartial application of the Personnel Handbook policies; coordinates orientation of new employees; maintains the proper and necessary work records of all employees; coordinates the evaluation process; and assures that all laws dealing with employment and employment reporting are observed.
